Franz Anton Bustelli’s Ovidian pantheon is similar to a sequence of children. The boys and girls cavort either on rocaille plaques or bases with the intricately painted Wittelsbach diamond coat of arms on the front. In a classic contrapposto position, the boy is balancing on his pedestal, holding the gold-painted sun high above his head and leaning on his lyre. The painting, done exclusively by hand, highlights details of the figurine. Thus, our gaze also falls on the cloak, loosely wrapped around the little god’s hips.
