In early Biedermeier more elaborate decorations became popular on modest shapes. It was strongly influenced by French Empire style.
This pendant is made from an elaborate cast brass ring. It is supported by an exquisite chain. In this sits a brilliantly cut crystal bowl. Beside the outside arms which are also cast there can be interior lights installed hidden within the bowl.
From a painting we know that one item from this family was the sole light source in the personal office of Emperor Franz I at Vienna Hofburg Palace.
