In contrast to Franz Anton Bustelli's lively figures, Johann Friedrich Lück's designs were characterised by quiet reservation. As a sculptor, he worked for the Manufactory, based in Frankenthal, at the dawn of the Rococo era. After the official closure of the workshops in Mannheim, various forms and models were brought to Nymphenburg. Important statuettes such as this sitting Chinese Man with Leaf Bowl – designed and realised in Frankenthal as early as the 18th century – were first created in the master workshops of the Munich Manufactory in the 20th century.
