The Metropolitan Chandelier was designed by Hans Harald Rath for the Metropolitan Opera in New York. We were awarded the contract to deliver the chandeliers by the Republic of Austria as a donation in gratitude for the United States aid in the European Recovery Programme.
The inspiration for this design was supplied by the Architect of the Met, Edwar K. Harrisson who presented pictures of distant galaxies. As a first prototype to present the design the family myth reports of a potato with tooth picks. After over 40 years this line is still our best seller.

These tiny fixtures adorn the landings in the left and right staircases between first, second and third floors. Despite their diminutive size they feature all elements that their larger counterparts in the foyer display. In a slightly contrasting fashion the large hand-cut crystals that are only accents with the large Metropolitan chandeliers are here a striking detail. Thus they outbalance the sputnik element and enhancing the material presence of this cute fixture.

Following the huge success of the Metropolitan Project Hans Harald Rath created this line of small candle sticks to further the use of Swarovski Crystal. Based on the simple design of a little wreath from brass bearing the Strass beads he deducted a large number of different items. Under the name of “Lights of Vienna” they have been one of the main exports from Lobmeyr to the USA of the mid-70s.

This wall floor lamp was an early design of Peter Rath following the sudden death of his father Hans Harald. It was based on the very successful chandeliers Hans Harald Rath designed for the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
The frame of the fixture is made from brass and carefully polished by hand to be covered in a nickel finish. This is then decorated with multiple sputnik elements, the wooden balls with the Swarovski crystals that became a landmark of the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
This design is a perfect addition to the Metropolitan Chandeliers to complete any lounge area or other room composition.

The great example of the Metropolitan Chandelier always was a burden for the table lamp design of this line. With its simple composure of a small version of the chandelier and a simple base with stem the old lamp was much too humble to live up to its prototype.
So Johannes Rath and Jarrett Hedborg joined their creativity to transform the simple “chandelier on a stick” into a new look by setting the starburst head on a collar-like base. The bent support of the head gives it the impression of a shooting star.
