With his three-dimensional animal statuette August Göhring achieved what Dürer put to paper with water colours in 1502. The sculptor executed this masterly natural study of the hare for the first time in 1960 in the masters’ workshops of the manufactory. Since then, the hare has been casually vying for the attention of the beholder. It has already won the lasting admiration of Dutch designer, Hella Jongerius. As a result, it can be found surrounded by decorative flowers as a figure on the animal dishes she designed for Nymphenburg in 2004.
