It is well-known that a mouse is seldom by itself. Nymphenburg also produced numerous animal groups with the social behaviour of mice as their subject. This pair of cheese-eating mice is by Theodor Kärner, who worked at Nymphenburg as a sculptor and modeller from 1905 until 1918. With his own style, he enhanced and shaped the manufactory’s repertoire of animal figurines. Thus, to this day, the playful composition of this scenery has been the archetype for the group of mice of Wilhelm Neuhäuser, which was produced but a few years ago.
