The truer-to-nature a representation of animal life in Art Nouveau was, the greater success it enjoyed among the public. And size was not a matter of importance here. The best example is this small mouse by Wilhelm Neuhäuser from 1910. The sculptor succeeded in capturing the small rodent in a moment of natural motion and strained alertness. The true-to-life representation with all its shading comes into its own especially well in this ivory-coloured, unpainted porcelain version.
